As I finish up my first semester in my “big boy job” I think about how I can improve next semester. A few of the sites I visit on a regular basis have all put their two cents into the old tradition.
Some say to choose just one resolution. I guess in this way you don’t over-do yourself and get overwhelmed with too many expectations. It’s a good idea, and, honestly, if I made real resolutions, it’s one I’d probably consider.
Others give a long list of tips about creating habits that will help you to reach your goal. Personally, I find LifeHack to be a wonderful site, but sometimes their lists just get tooooo long. I picked my favorite out of the list - change behavior, worry about results later. That one really works for just about anything you put your mind to, be it resolutions or changing habits.
I have my own method, I choose resolutions that are almost impossible to not keep. That way, I can have a bunch of resolutions and feel good about myself 366 (leap year!) days later.
My list:
- Don’t let your residence hall blow up. It’s bad for business, and besides, that’s where all your stuff is.
- Make new friends. Seriously, with a shining personality like mine, how can I miss on this one?
- Say something meaningful on this blog. I’m not promising a life-changing post or anything. Far be it from me to change your entire perspective on the world of student affairs, but if I can at least get one person to say, “Heh.. I get it” then I consider myself a success.
It’s a start.
Anybody care to share their resolutions for the class?

When I sat down to list my goals for 2008, I included both goals and hopes. The goals were those things that I really felt were necessary, or things I really want to achieve this year. The hopes were things I’d like to accomplish, but may not have time for. We’ll see how that works out!

My resolution is to put myself first (at least some of the time). I want to get physically and spiritually healthy.
